Prevention is better than cure!
“A stich in time saves nine”, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”, and our personal favourite “intellectuals solve problems, geniuses prevent them”. That last quote is by Albert Einstein, and while we’re not going to draw comparisons between us and one of the greatest theoretical physicists of our time (ha, we just did!), at Red Flag Systems we also attest to the fact that prevention really is better than cure. And what has this got to do with security systems you ask? Maintenance. Planned preventative maintenance. It’s a big part of what we do….
You see our job doesn’t finish after we’ve packed up our tool and provided training on how to use a security system. It continues, year in year out to ensure that our customer’s investment in their security continues to protect their businesses and staff long into the future. And we do that with preventative maintenance – planned visits to site to test the functionality of a security system. This ensures that the system remains fully operational and lessens the likelihood of it failing and causing an unexpected breakdown in the future. Because prevention really is so much better than cure!

So, what’s involved in a maintenance? Firstly, we provided our customers with a notification every time their system is due for a maintenance (typically once a year) with a fixed cost for the works so there are no surprises. Once given approval we book a convenient date for one of our qualified technicians to attend to fully test the functionality of the security system. And afterwards we provide a written report on the status of the system, identifying any potential weaknesses or security loopholes.
Some of the most important checks carried out during a preventative maintenance of a security system including testing power supplies and back-up batteries, safeguarding a building to remain secure during a power outage. Cleaning, re-adjusting, and focussing cameras to make sure that vital video evidence is never missed. Testing intruder detection devices and duress alarms to ensure that any failures are identified BEFORE an intruder puts your system to the test. And most importantly, with the continuing threat of cyber security we update the firmware on network connected security systems – fixing bugs, providing new features, and protecting the system from security vulnerabilities.
Are you maintaining your system properly? If not, you could be facing costly emergency repairs when something goes wrong – and getting far less protection than you deserve. Planned preventative maintenance is the best way to keep your system working at optimal efficiency, ensuring full life expectancy, and cutting emergency maintenance costs.
